I got some guppies for breeding last month as an extra project and so my red belly piranha can have a nice snack once in a while. I was wondering if anyone could estimate how close my guppies are to giving birth. I know to look for a boxy shape and a darker gravid spot, but this is my first time and I could use someone's educated guess as to how close they are.

The female at the bottom could be any day soon. Sorry can't give an exact estimation.

I can't tell you in days, but I remember mine looking really, really huge like the one below. (That was eons ago.) Since the babies are growing inside, it could be soon, but I can't tell.

Younger females might have smaller broods then older ones, and there's always some variation, so you can't really say the exact timing from a picture.

whats the tank size needed to breed guppy?
I had 40 guppies in a 20 g.. tank seemed to crowded so I bought a 40g breeder and am very happy I did . lots of room for the guppies to swim and even more room for the fry to hide from the adults.

is 10g works with 1 male 3 female? just trying to get some monthly snack for my fish.
i think a 10g would be plenty of room. Just sink some yarn tied to a rock in there or grow some plants so the guppy babies have where to hide. 4 guppies in a 10g is very light stocking, I currently have about 15 in a 10g.

Right now I have 5 females and one male in my planted 10gal tank. They just had their first fry last week. 3 fry were born dead and 4 alive. Guppy breeding has not gone well for me. I lost my biggest female too:(
