I think the point in reef tanks is getting to see the coral and inverts. Fish seem to be an extra bonus, if you can squeeze them in.

Oz fish guy Oz fish guy yeah, sorry, I'll have to pass on the octopus! And I'd DEFINITELY go bigger than 5g if I had the space and the money to spend on another fish tank. I've decided by now, after consulting MFK, that I'm content with my 60g tank. And I saw the thread talking about 5 gallon tanks on MONSTER Fish Keepers...which I'm assuming is referring back to this thread. I LOVE monster fish. A monster fish saltwater tank would be a dream come true! However, tank size, time, and money prevent me from enjoying multiple gigantic tanks. I don't enjoy tiny, normal community fish; I like the giant awesome ones that are usually displayed at public aquariums, like groupers and sharks. I just thought having a small saltwater tank on the side would be cool. I've moved on since then. I probably wouldn't be on this website if I didn't like monster fish! I don't LOVE mini tanks, and they would definitely NOT be my first choice; I'm not a "nano tank" type of guy. I just thought it would be an interesting idea, that's all.

nothing wrong with being a nano tank kind of guy! Not that I want to start that discussion here, there's enough of it in the other thread. but just wanted to say, most of us aren't judging you for wanting to do a 5 gallon :) Just not the best idea for saltwater. I have a 4 gallon planted tank and It's a lot of fun.
