What s/a fish are you looking at?
Some great species there.
Geos and angels work very well together.
They don't compete for the same territorial space and the best thing is they look amazing.
Good luck whatever you decide on.
One thing I was unclear about was when you spoke about the use of slate and gluing branches to it. Would you mind elaborating?
Certainly.
Some times it's nice to create the look of old dead roots or branches that used to grow upwards towards the water surface from the substrate.

Awesome! Thank you. I was totally overthinking it. I remember when driftwood was often sold like that. I like the idea of doing it yourself because you can achieve the look you are going for without searching forever for that "perfect" piece.

have you used oak leaves? Found some and am tempted to try them for my shrimp 
Yes Hendre, I probably use them more than any other leaf.
They hold lots of tannins and last a long time. They would be perfect for your shrimp.
