Salminus Franciscanus (Golden Dorado)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had to go back through and look. Nice job these are some beasts.

The mouth shapes are quite different

So you noticed?
The one with the shorter upper snout acts so much different than the rest. I'm thinking he is not a Frankie. His body is beefier and is very timid. He does not shoal with the others. His eating habits are different too. He doesn't rummage the bottom for food but instead he attacks moving pellets as others kick them up.

So do you think the dorados will grow to the tank size? We've all seen pictures of them in the wild. Huge and very golden yellow. What can we expect out of aquariums?
Curious to see if Viktor's dorado in the 4500g will do different.

They may "grow to the tank size" but you know that means stunted. I'll say the biggest I can think of was arapaimags think it was 22"

That's interesting.
Have you noticed that their snout shape changes after 14-15".
