I've had these three sevs since they were babies in a 60 gallon. Two of them seemed to pair off. They did the twitching, rubbing on each other, lip locking and scooting the sand to find some flat hard surface to lay eggs (is that how they spawn on flat rocks?). Since they started doing that they were both more aggressive towards the third severum and the bristlenose pleco that have since been moved to another tank.

I know that males show more markings on their faces but the more I look at all of them the more confused I get because they all look like males to me, one more so than the others. Halp!

I can try and get better pics. It's hard though between the snails stealing focus or the fish just getting excited and doing the feed me dance.

If they all look like males there's a good chance they are all males. Pairing off isn't a reliable way to tell, unless one lays eggs, that's a pretty foolproof way to ID a female.

My two gold males have been paired up and constantly cleaning rocks in my tank for at least a year, I think. The previous batch about 10 years ago had a couple males pair up too.

I also had half a dozen jewels that all turned out to be females, they kept pairing up in various combinations too. Don't know why I keep getting so many *** fish...:D

Probably for the best, I don't want to deal with the fry.
