Hey y'all. Me and my dad decided I could get a south american lungfish. From what I've seen, they handfeed pretty easily. But if mine doesn't, that's okay too. I'm just so excited! Wish me luck!

As an adult, he'll at least get a 75 gallon. But if he grows too big for it, we will definitely upgrade! I know lungfish don't move around too much, and I saw they could even be in a 60 gallon (though that seemed a little thin of a tank). We are going to build it, so we certainly can adjust it to meet his comfort level.
Years ago I had an African lungfish in a 180 until I felt he needed a larger home. Seriously great pet fish and incredibly interesting. He shared his home with a group of volcano rasboras for about a year with no problems (after he was about 28" they were added). You won't believe how thick they are at larger sizes.
I can only imagine! From what I've seen, the sal is very tolerant of hand feeding and being petted. Is this true or are these just special sals?
I can't speak of them in general as I have only owned the one but I had him for about four - five years. He was like a puppy and used to beg with his nose just out of the surface of the water whenever I was feeding the Mbu in the next tank his clams etc. He didn't mind when i'd move him out of the way by hand so I could siphon the sand under where he was. I wouldn't really say I pet fish, it's not something I see as useful or having a positive effect. That being said he had no problem with being touched. On the activity side of things if left on his own he was rather sedentary but whenever he saw something near his aquarium or me/my partner he would become quite excited and active. As long as you're careful and maintain the aquarium well there would be no reason why it wouldn't last you quite a while but in the long term regardless of activity imo it's just not fair to house such a large animal in such a small body of water.
75 Gallon tank is not going to be anywhere near big enough. These fish live for well over 20 years and get 3-4' long, and very thick.
