Hi there,

I've been reading this forum for a long time and finally got around to signing up!

I currently have a P. senegalus around 6" his/her tank mates are 2 medium size angels, 1 large bristlenose, 1 smallish pleco (around the size of the bristlenose), and a large rainbow shark.

I have the chance to purchase a P. senegalus albino which are pretty rare in my country (New Zealand) but the problem is the albino is 3" and my only option at the moment would be to put him/her in the same tank.

How bad would this end....? my current P. senegalus is extremely friendly and doesn't bother his/her tank mates but I have never kept two together and I'm not sure if the size difference is going to be a problem.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard!

If the Albino Sen is small or thin enough to fit in the Regular Sen's mouth then wouldn't personally put them together.

Thank you, so best to follow the if it fits in the mouth rule even when they are the same species.

That aside, being the same species is there likely to be aggression issues or are they fairly tolerant towards their own kind?

I have personally kept groups of 5 but now have 1 male with 3 females. Senegal Polys are imo one of the mildest of the Bichir species.

On occasion if there’s some nipping or aggression. Just waiting it out will help. The Sens will eventually figure out the hierarchy. What the other guys have mentioned are key.

You can grow the albino sen in a 10g tank till its fat enough not to fit in the mouth, or you can make a screen divider to add in the tank.
