General Care Concerns about Oscars

My thoughts exactly, that fish is getting better care than 99.9% of Oscars out there.
First off, Welcome to the Fishy family!
Well it seems that you have way above what the norm to bring this cute little I back from the brink. Kudos to you for that. It looks like you are well along your way to happy Oscar land.
As far as special care for Oscar's. They are glutinous pigs and will eat everything that fits in their mouth.
Biggest thing really is water conditions. As you have seen they are true pigs and it seems like half the food flies out their gills. To combat this I do fin level water changes every other day, with gravel vacing to get out all that extra food.

More well known than I'd like to be lol. Ive had buckets left in my driveway, hung on my fence, even had plastic bags of fish stuffed in my mailbox. i guess it doesn't help tho that my hobby is so visable to the whole neighborhood. People drive. By all the time and see me tinkering in the ponds or if my garage is open its hard to miss the big tanks all lit up
Thank you for the warm welcome every one. I'm sorry i didnt have the foresight to take pictures when he first came. i was a little preoccupied with keeping him alive and a bunch of other fish stuff. I had a friend at the same time who replaced the liner and all the equipment in her pond and couldn't figure out why her fish started dying... People make my head hurt sometimes.

Dont think i haven't lost my fair share to rookie mistakes. But I always take it hard when I lose one and learn so I dont lose the next one. Now-a-days I've gotten good at reviving a deathbed special.
Good, I remember my earlier days, and we didn't have the info we have now, heck it was thought goldfish were a good food, and that a water change meant scrubbing and bleaching everything to death
This is my Oscar Toni.
I got her at about 1.5 inches, now she is around 11in mark.
Biggest things I can say about Oscar specific care is water changes. They are prone to get Hith in bad water. But sounds like you are on it in the department. May want to up the changes as it grows out. Toni's poops are 1.5,2 inches long now as round as a pencil and still ain't done growing.
Mine is in with an Ornatus catfish and some SDs to keep her company. If you ever decide to add friends just have to make sure they are bigger than yours O's mouth, and will stay that way even if the Oscar is not done growing.
Case in point
I do have a thread all about her from day 1 more or less if you want to check it out. Maybe pick up a thing or two not to do. We have had some bumps along the way. But has come out ahead so far.
