My 15+ years experience must be an anomaly o_O please share with me the danger you see in priming a new tank?
Prime reduce the oxygen level in the tank. It is used as a detoxifier for ammonia and crap not as a chemical filtration. If you have somewhat of a decent filtration system you wouldn’t need to dump it everyday. That’s about the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Not to insult you or your 15 years of experience. I’m sure 100% EVERYBODY will agree with me what you are doing is completely unnecessary and potentially dangerous to your fish. That being said let me ask you do you panic when you go a day without putting prime in your tank?

I’m not sure why the entire community does not recommend having a few gallons of prime around at all times. I Fish in cycle with prime from day one and have never had an unhealthy fish. Aside from your water changes, add prime once a day and you will be fine
You pretty much answered your own question. Because the entire community knows that’s just dumb. There are absolutely ZERO BENEFITS to dosing every day

I think you are missing my point. I don’t prime everyday lol. I do however prime during ammonia and nitrite spikes, following a water change. This detoxifies. If you have any type of sufficient mechanical filtration running, it will add more than enough oxygen to replace. I’m actually baffled that you’d think allowing major ammonia and nitrite spikes, when the guy isn’t even able to test parameters never mind correct them as he runs off to work, is safer than adding prime.

I guess my wording was alluding to a meaning not aligned with my purpose. Dose standard prime during ammonia and nitrite spikes, following at least 50% water change, while cycling. This fish looks +/-1 to 1.5 months old. I’d assume the tank is young as well as it is a growout. I add stability daily in the “young stage” until everything levels off. I have healthy fish, we run a 20k gallon pond, 50k gallon pond, down to 3 gallon cubes. They all respond well to this style of cycling.

If there is an issue with ammonia I would every two days do a large water change with full dose for tank. I don’t think it’s necessary to dose daily for a ammonia issue but I would think it would be harmless because you can dose 4 to 5 times the amount without an issue. I have to agree with Dloks Dloks its definitely not a routine maintenance hey I just add it daily type of thing. I know that’s not what you meant but just to clarify for any one reading through this thread who is learning.

Yes thank you for helping me clarify. Though not what I meant, I also don’t think a daily dose of prime would kill your fish Either. If you are doing daily water changes during a fish in cycle, you are naturally dosing daily if only to dechlorinate. Like I said, my two cents, never killed a fish that way.
