Cuban Cichlids,

What is their aggression like? I am thinking about getting one from Jeff Rapps at TUIC. I like them because they look like jaguar cichlids, but stay smaller.
How would they do with a salvini cichlid, severums, jack Dempsey, clown loaches, and black (wide) bar silver dollars?

The salvini will be a male when I get him. I believe the jack Dempsey is a male. Have no idea what sex the severums are. No idea what sex the Cuban will be when I get one. I'm ordering from Jeff Rapps and the salvini and Cuban will be added at the same time.

It will be a role of the dice, Cubans can be pretty aggressive, I have had two male salvini and both of them were nightmares once they hit the 7 inch mark. Eventually I think you will have to move the severums out as generally there no where near as aggressive as the centrals you're adding.

Aggression will depend on what size tank you have.
A friend of mine kept a couple tetracanthus in a 220 gal community with a similar array of cichlids without a problem. I had mine in a 150 and until they start to spawn were fine, then all other cichlids had to be removed.
Females are generally smaller, more torpedo shaped, and have darker mottling, and solid color in the dorsal.

males are taller, larger, spots are smaller and the dorsal is not a solid color (male below)

Are Cubans or festae more aggressive I'm thinking of adding a cuban to my 240 gal community aswell. They are so cool

I've never thought that festae or tetracanthus were uber aggressive in the right size tank.
In a 240 (if all territory is not already carved out by the other cichlids) aggression may be minimal.
If you put either species in anything 100 gallons or under and expect thing to be copasetic, disappointment may be in your future.

I would agree that single tetracanthus, while no pushover, are "not that bad" in a 6 foot plus tank. Breeding of course would change that; but I kept a single tetracanthus in a 125 with similarly tough centrals for a couple years and he held his own, yet didn't start any trouble. Mine only got to about 7" before selling him, so maybe a jumbo male would be different.
