New Tank Syndrome???

It sounds weird what happened.

As was already said, small fish shouldn't have died that quickly.

When I started my QT tank, I used a cycle sponge but I still had ammonia spines when I added my fish in as the songs didn't have enough bacteria to handle the loaload. By testing and adding prime to detoxify ammonia , I've made it work.

What are your water parameters?

Did you rinse clean the tank before setting up? It's always better to clean the whole tank preferably with warm water, fill it up, empty it again, and refill before starting the running. You never know what type of chemical or biological contamination is inside, irrespective it's a new or used tank.

And what filtration is on that tank, and current water parameters?

I filled it up and emptied it 3 times before filling in up I had two twenty gallon filters and a sponge filter on temporarily while I went and got a 100 gallon filter

I had two twenty gallon hob and a sponge filter from the old tank temporarily, I thought that the water parameters would be fine since I just filled it with tap water so I didn’t check. Do you want the parameters right now?

Everyone's saying your dechlorinator could have killed them, maybe so. What about water temps? Did you set your heaters up, I don't see any in the tank and you haven't got a sump....unless your fish were cold water?

I used a separate dechlorinator I just noticed that the water stinks way more than my other tank ever did

Had that problem too. I put someMelafix in to de-stress the fish and it took the smell away. Also did daily water changes until ammonia/nitrite/nitrate level back to normal. (Also gave my one surviving shubunkin lots of support and positive energy). He was very sick but pulled through.

I never used heaters because I live in Florida and the water always stays at 78
