300 gallon poly tank

Last time i had a JD was probably 20 yrs ago. Love these fish tough little bastards and great color was always one of my favorite cichlids super common but really underrated. This guy is living up to there reputation already being a jerk.

Also picked up a little green texas and convict with the red wolf trade in.

Yeah i agree. Though i did have an HRP yrs ago and he had tons of spunk. The JD was beating on the texas so i went out and grabbed a handful of tetras and the con to spread the aggression out. Seems to have worked. Fingers crossed
 
Cool, you got your JD!

The convict looks to be female? Hard to tell on my tablet but looks like orange belly typical of a female. If the JD or Texas turn out to be males you might get some little hybrids. Those cons can cross breed quite easily.

Yeah i thought the same. I cant believe how much im enjoying these little guys. Added as mall fire mouth as well. That Jd is a nasty one lol but a keeper. I really like his dark colors where as allot of times they can have those lighter base colors. Con is a cool little chick. Shes pretty outgoing . I never kept texas before so im excited to see how it turns out

That’s cool tht the baby is getting involved at such a young age. Jack Dempsey’s are cool. Glad the fish made it in the tank hehe.

Fair. They aren’t as flashy as some of the others. My dad really likes cichlids. He had oscars, JDs etc when I was growing up. He had a convict which got along pretty well with my ornate, but idk what cichlid personality type they are supposed to have. Aren’t they supposed to be jerks?

I actually like this little convict. Really interactive and begs for food.
 
Hey man sorry about the jag! That wolf really flipped out it seems. I’ve had no problems with my red wolf and jag together and I assumed that was the common experience. But then again it might be a ticking time bomb. glad you were able to rehome.

It could have just been some unforeseen events. Others on here have the combo so hopefully it works put for you. Nothing wrong with trying bro
