Electric Cat Fish - adult size?

Hi, i am new to keeping Fish and was bought a rather cool electric cat fish by my wife for my birthday.

I have kept him alone for approx 3 weeks and he is doing well, the guy in the shop told her his full size would be about 30cm.

So my question is, has she been lied to? From looking online 30cm seems very small and an unrealistic adult size.

Would you be willing to follow a guide on building a tank or an above ground pond? There are plenty of guides online of people making their own tanks. Making your own tank will cost a lot less then buying the same size tank.

While the adult size is large, for some reason they rarely grow to be big at all, maybe 18"?. I remember seeing a video from Asia where there was a huge specimen, not sure if it was raised like that or was simply imported.

Hopefully he wont grow beyond that then and should be all good, hes got a real character my wifes been hand feeding him
