Nano Reef

Yeah, nano reefs are lit , im gonna get one for my b-day.
I am gonna get a used boyu 125 tank with a protein skimmer for 150 bucks!
I was gonna get the same lights as you, it is good to know their good (weird phrasing).
Mine is gonna have two clownish and a toby puffer. Maybe a firefish or 2. Its gonna be my first saltwater tank so i am a bit scared but I have done a lot of research.
One thing that is confusing is corals. I don't know what is a good beginner one and do you have to feed them something everyday? I know zoanthids are good but i like soft corals.
What is the green one in the second pic because that looks real nice.

Now why wouldn’t you think the the people here on mfk wouldn’t be interested? Yes we may be a primarily freshwater based forum but we also do enjoy saltwater things as well. I particularly love the little green thingy in there. Can’t wait to see how your nano reef turns out

Hey man, yeah saltwater is a lot of fun. Pretty addicting; I'm already scoping out spots in my apartment that would fit another nice nano tank haha. The green coral is called Ricordea; they are easy and this green one might be my favorite in the tank so far. Soft corals in general are easy, each coral is a little different in it's needs. Some corals you do need to feed daily, and the way they eat can vary. Some need target feeding, some need you to dose things in the water. If you stick with easy soft corals like zoanthids, xenia, polyps, etc. you probably won't need to feed or dose. When you get into hard corals you usually need to dose calcium and possibly magnesium or trace elements; depends on the type of coral. I only have one stony coral (hammer) and as long as I don't get many more, I can probably avoid dosing by just doing weekly water changes.

Thanks! Yeah there is some saltwater community here, just much less than the predators and cichlids (which makes sense- this is monster fish keepers, not tiny fish and invertebrate keepers haha)

Thanks man, around 2 inches. I am losing a bit of it every WC because it's so fine. Might have to start adding some aragonite to it soon.

Thanks, cant wait for them to grow in. Will be adding more as well and maybe trading some of these out. The sand is supposedly live but it's just the bagged caribsea arag-alive Bahama oolite. I do have a ton of small pods, bristleworms, and other critters living in it now.

Nice! I have an acan that looks almost the exact same. Under violet and blues it looks bright red and yellow, like a starburst. I can't wait to see how your tank fills out! it'll look great once things grow in.
