As to why I use plastic cutting boards, I really couldn't find anything else that served the purpose as well -- it doesn't float and comes in different colors if I get bored with one lol.
I could use some kind of thin sheet of rock, like slate but with the plastic there's less chance of Drakaris injuring his (admittedly small) kok.
But now that you mention it, yeah I guess the cutting board does look a bit out of place with the 'Ming Dynasty' vases lol, maybe I'll try a piece of tile with the edges filed down.

The real meaning of 'kok' in Hokkien dialect is bulge/swell. It is an adjective, not a noun. I speak the language daily, its not a 'slang'.
And we are here discussing the correct pronunciation of 'kok', not how to pronounce 'nuchal hump'.

LOL, point taken. Thanks. But I'm pretty sure that you are the only person in this discussion that speaks the language, the rest of us use English as our first language. The correct terminology in the English language is nuchal hump. I never did understand how or why people in North America were using Asian terms/language to describe a nuchal hump. If the fish comes from Thailand, do we use Thai terminology? But at the end of the day you are correct, thanks for correcting me, but just for the record I will always refer to the "bulge" on a fishes head as a nuchal hump.

Of course you're both right in a way, it's clearly kind of a regional thing-- personally I've been living in Asia for half my adult life so it's not surprising I mostly use the word 'kok' -- and I'm not alone: a quick search of this Hybrid forum will show 8,300 examples of people using the word 'kok'; 2,500 instances of people using the word 'hump', and only 526 instances of 'nuchal hump', even though as RD says English is the first language of most of us. On the other hand this isn't totally surprising, let's face it, it's the Asians who are the masters of creating and breeding this most coolest of fish...

LOL, good one Barrett. I stand corrected on the pronunciation, but the kok terminology has in my mind been incorrect all along. I don't typically speak in Hokkien dialect, or Mandarin, or even French Canadian. lol I've even slipped a few times over the years and used the term kok, but I think if you search hard enough you'll see where I have corrected the unwashed FH masses many times over the years - and not just about this. Things like you need to keep their temp at 82-86 F, or one shouldn't use a black background, or their "hump" consist of fat, or one needs specialty (read expensive) power nutrient FH food to get a massive hump, or brighter pearls, or whatever crap someone is attempting to sell.

And like many others here I appreciate your common sense input in regard to FH and lots of other things, hands down your my favorite poster on MFK.
How do people train their fish to do a barrel roll? I get that you have to feed them but how do you get them to do it in the first place?
Well I suppose you could get them to follow your finger on the glass but never had to do that with Drakaris, like most FH I think he just does it because he's happy
(though yes he does it more vigorously right before or during feeding time).
