Well I suppose you could get them to follow your finger on the glass but never had to do that with Drakaris, like most FH I think he just does it because he's happy :) (though yes he does it more vigorously right before or during feeding time).
I wish I could get a flowerhorn to see this. They sound so cool, do you think they have more personality than an oscar?

I can't say for sure WSC as I've never owned an Oscar before, I only know from what many others say they also are a super personable fish -- and unlike a FH you don't really have to worry about them acting like they love you one second and the next trying to kill you -- but I think it's also this which attracts many of us to FH.

IME the personality or behaviour of each FH varies. But I agree with Barrett, most are very personable and owner responsive fish, but that could certainly be said about a lot of the larger cichlids that are kept in tanks by themselves. The downside is that like most of the designer fish they tend to be genetically weak and don't tend to live overly long lives.

my dad had an oscar, it bit off the heads of minnows so he named it Ozzy after Ozzy Osbourne because he bit the head off of a bat. Ozzy would rub up against your hand, swim around carrying a decorative ship in his mouth, and he'd move all the gravel to one side of the tank. Ozzy did not like heaters and broke several of them by attacking them, he also tried to attack my dads one girlfriend. My dad fed him goldfish routinely, but there was one goldfish he refused to eat, it grew up with him in a 55 gallon tank until and Ozzy died at 12 years old around 14 inches, the goldfish was then given to a friend with a pond

Canada eh
Personally I like your small nuchal hump;)

My Oscar does barrel rolls almost on a daily basis. I think his are more out of boredom than happiness. I agree with these fish all differing from one to another. He used to be with my pacu who would chase him all around the tank and they would play together, but now the pacu is re homed to a big pond he is bored with life. I put some large tinfoil barbs in with him as dithers but there is a pacu sized hole in our hearts right now that tinfoil barbs just don’t fill.

You don’t have to worry about the Oscar pretending to love you one minute then try to kill you the next because they always hate you. Lol. It doesn’t matter how many earth worms, bugs, blood worms , water changes, etc. They have an attitude that is super stubborn and they won’t give up.

Of course you're both right in a way, it's clearly kind of a regional thing-- personally I've been living in Asia for half my adult life so it's not surprising I mostly use the word 'kok' -- and I'm not alone: a quick search of this Hybrid forum will show 8,300 examples of people using the word 'kok'; 2,500 instances of people using the word 'hump', and only 526 instances of 'nuchal hump', even though as RD says English is the first language of most of us. On the other hand this isn't totally surprising, let's face it, it's the Asians who are the masters of creating and breeding this most coolest of fish...

All I can say though it's a good thing none of the people who used the word 'kok' 8,300 times were banned lol -- that would be cultural insensitivity/naivete :)

And call it whatever you want, my guy has a small one and he's proud of it! :)
Couldn't agree more. Whether you call it Kok, Nuchal hump or hump, we flowerhorn enthusiasts know the meaning. :)

LOL, point taken. Thanks. But I'm pretty sure that you are the only person in this discussion that speaks the language, the rest of us use English as our first language. The correct terminology in the English language is nuchal hump. I never did understand how or why people in North America were using Asian terms/language to describe a nuchal hump. If the fish comes from Thailand, do we use Thai terminology? But at the end of the day you are correct, thanks for correcting me, but just for the record I will always refer to the "bulge" on a fishes head as a nuchal hump. :)

Well I am glad that the burning passion of flowerhorn keeping has spread all over the world like fire. Undeniably the Thais have produced some of the best quality FH and took the hobby to a whole new level.

Agreed, flowerhorns just have so much personality and are so cute, it's a shame they get big though. I want a lot of fish when I grow up (peacock bass, mbu puffer, dovii cichlid, vieja, arowanas, gars, ripsaw catfish, red tail catfish, etc.) but I know most of those won't happen, so I made a goal to get a 120 gallon tank for an Oscar, a 120 for a flowerhorn, and a 90 for a green terror and red devil because these are the fish with the best personality from what I have heard and they are somewhat reasonable to get
