Anyway, I was at the LFS today and saw this peacock bass. Can anyone help me identify the species? I’m thinking it is a mono or ocellaris but I am stumped as he is still Juvenile. The pet shop didn’t know either. I don’t think it is a Kelberi which is what I was looking for. But still curious! :) A28E9D8D-9371-40B5-BFCA-423BB8356DE2.jpeg

Thanks for the reply! I’d be down with an Orino as I hear they have a super slow growth rate but I didn’t see yellow around the darker circles on it’s side. Wondering if those show up later? Or if it is not an Orinoco? Hard to tell when they are young...

I'm leaning more towards mono simply because the red in the tail is so intense which i find is more common in the monos. Kelberi is personal favorite of mine so glad that is what you are looking for :headbang2

Fist off welcome to the forums. Next time post in the Cichla forum for better answers. It’s definitely not an Orino. Most peacock bass that have no label are farm hybrids mono/ocellaris but I would say that that fish looks more like ocellaris.

Thanks! I think you are right. But what is the main difference between and Ocellaris and a mono? I did end up getting him because I didn’t want to pay shipping costs for something online. So far the rehoming process went really well! He is active and eating pellets! Here are a few more pics to help identify him.

Monos will have blotching on there stomach and can have tail spangles. Your fish doesn’t have those marking, and looks like my ocell did at that size.

Awesome! Do have pics of him now? Or as an adult if you don’t still have him?
