that's a good idea. but first i will visit the other store. they also have 4 gt's. maybe i'm lucky. and finally if i like a fish and choose it i won't be unhappy because of it's sex (even if i prefer a male)...
That’s the best way to go. Males are more colorful, but females can be just as entertaining and personable.
My first gt was a female(I wanted a male, but didn’t know how to tell genders apart) and she is more aggressive then my male. Even though I was disappointed I didn’t have a male I never would have traded her in. She is my girl and a great pet:)

You can find a dominant male even at 3" TL. They are bright green among the group, and being the most dominant, typically have their fins without nips. You can definitely sex green bearded females at that size too. It's the non-bearded females and sub-dominant males that are hard to sex at that size.

Following this thread because I too am trying to sex my 4" GT. Not sure if it's more polite to ask for help sexing my GT here or start yet another 'sex my GT' thread, but here goes...

Mine has a small point on Dorsal, nice wide orange band on tail, and lots of yellow-gold in the ventral fins. So some male indicators but the 'shininess' of body scales comes and goes. Is not a dominant fish and is being picked on by male Nic who I'm going to move out.

Thanks in advance for any help!
