I picked up this 3" oscar on Saturday. Based on the eye color and lack of striping, I believe that this oscar is a true albino rather than the lucistic oscars typically seen for sale.

Let me know what you think

Looks promising ATM, could still develop color and the black in its fins and be lutino tho.
Good luck, keep on updating here pal.

Thanks for mentioning lutino Justarn! I had a similar thought regarding the yellow pigmentation but I couldn't think of the word for it. I'd be very excited if it developed yellow or gold markings. Do you know if lutino animals have normal eyes or red eyes?

Lutino Oscar's are basically all the white based Oscar's save true albinos. True albinos have pink eyes and only pink coloration on thier body. Any other colors makes them Lutino.
Thanks Jexnell, I will keep everyone posted as the oscar grows and changes. BTW I saw a picture of your oscar, Toni, in another post and she is a jawdropping fish.

I do have one question, if the oscar has xanthochromism, would it have red eyes or does that only occur in albinism?

In all honesty in 25 years in the hobbies I cat say I've ever seen a true albino oscar... Even Google yields only fish with the orange colouration.
Yours looks to have a good chance as the iris is plain and not allot of colour I can see in that pic.
I'm not sure if true albino are even available or excist?

Hmm, might be the real deal given the lack of body coloration.

My "albino" is technically a lutino. She has red eyes and a white body but she also has orange tiger markings.

I see the faintest wash of orange along the dorsal line of your fish but maybe that's the lighting or a reflection?

I believe that is the lighting or an artifact of the camera. In person, I can see the tiger markings on the fish's body but they are very faint and either cream or gold in color.

Love little Os. That's a great looking one.

Time will tell on the coloration thing.
