Cant sand cause some issues with canister filters? Is there a sand that causes less damage or something I can do to prevent it?
I mean don’t bury the inlet strainer into the sand. They are usually adjustable. Have 2 canisters on my 125 with sand and no issues.

You can get pool filter sand its easy to clean and heavier than the play sand sold at lowes or home depot. I would stay away from that stuff

I agree with the pool filter sand. I use it on my 125 with an fx6 and have no problems. I am guessing it is pretty common since petsmart has a black Friday deal on the filter and the tank each year.

So I am currently thinking of starting out by getting a Synodontis Granulosus, a Platinum Senegal Bichir, and a Lima shovelnose over the next 3-4 weeks. In a few months I will prob get 1-2 more fish, hopefully then I can think of top swimmers I actually want that can be happy in a 125.

Everything sounds good but I would leave out the lima. It would be fine for a while but would be a little crowded IMO reaching up to 18"+.

I initally thought that but I have been reading articles saying that 99% of Limas sold in the US are actually Sorubim elongatus that reach only 12 inches.
