Hi all! I have a young ghost knife I'd like to put in my big tank but he's small enough to be eaten by my ornate bichir. I'm trying to let him grow a bit in a smaller tank before housing him with the rest of my fish. I also ordered a breeder net so that I can segregate him in the big tank which tends to have better water quality. My two questions are how fast did your ghost knife grow and what if anything encourages faster growth. I've heard half inch a month and warmer water as answers to these questions but I'm happy to hear other opinions. (Obviously I'll be keeping the water in top shape)

Thanks!

1/2 in per month is right. Once they hit the 10in mark then they start to slow down. Suspect due to being cb nowadays.

I picked up a 3-4” bgk about 10 months ago and he’s around 11-12” head to tail. I kept him him a 20 long for about a month and fed pellets, tilapia, blood worms, and beefheart. All very good at packing on size but wouldn’t feed beefheart or bloodworms more than a couple times a week. Mines now in a 180 gallon.

How is your bgk?
I heard that dude on YouTube Josh Fish huge 18" bgk had his tail bit by one of his bichirs.
He ended up rehoming the knife.
Sometimes bgk get really comfortable in there tank and mistakes can happen with there tatsy looking tail!

He or she is doing well. I put it in a breeder net for a while then let it out. So far the bichir has just ignored it. Knock on wood. The bichir seems more mellow lately. Perhaps its an age thing but he used to insist of worms but now he prefers pellets. I don't do feeder fish but I used to. So the bichir learned some bad habits. But I quit giving them some time ago and he seems to have unlearned them. Everyone is getting along peacefully. Thanks for asking!
