240 vieja tank progression

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Been following your thread from the beginning and LOVE your stock. Going to pickup an 8' 180g (96x24x18) tonight. I assume yours is 96x24x24?

Correct.

If you, or anyone else for that matter, is planning on stocking with viejas, I highly recommend COTA's bifasciatus and heterospilus.

And a quick update: midas' have fully settled and not hiding anymore. No issues with the little guys competing for food as the SDs are a lot more timid now. I think when I had larger fish in the tank they felt more secure.

Raised fx6 intakes and added sand! Substrate is now a mix of 50lb pool filter sand and 20lb fine gravel. Sand takes it to another level, glad I added it.

All but one manzanita has sank to the bottom. Malaysian dw will likely be removed in near future. River rocks and larger landscaping rocks will be added once I can locate them.

Here's a full tank shot. Very sloppy and not well thought out but work in progress and everyone likes a full tank shot.

That looks nice.

I’ve always used PFS but have been seriously thinking about mixing in a bit of fine gravel. I think it gives the substrate a more natural look. Seeing yours confirms it.

How’s the little orange guy been behaving?

The orange guy pictured above is the smaller of two midas' do here been fine. The creamsicle has actually been well behaved. That guy is going to be a beast! I've already noticed growth in a short amount of time.

Photo update.

Everyone's doing great, eating well, active, and seemingly happy. The only fish that doesn't come up for food is the argentea; he's a very passive fish.

Midas - Tank boss at an early age. Loving his personality, a real camera and food hog. Eats everything I throw in. He's going to grow quick!

Heterospilus - Only gets pushed around by the larger midas. Cool and collected fella.

Sysnpilum group - Colors still not there yet. More yellows than reds.

Bifa - smallest one pictured but you can already see the pattern and colors.

Argentea - I believe this is the first photo of him. Very shy and passive fish. Doesn't come up for food with the rest of them; picks off the scraps.

Largest Midas growing some black spots on body and fins. I'm hoping this progresses and he attains a piebald look:

His vieja tankmates may look nicer, all subjective I know, but he's full of personality already and I really ike him!
