I do find it odd that they changed the name on The Cichlid Room companion, it used to be Orange Head years ago when they first entered the hobby.

Personally I'd prefer if it was sp. Tapajos 1 since there is a .sp Tapajos 2 and it would be less confusing.

Looks like our last posts were crossed. :)

Appreciate the reference, don't have the book, but now you mention it I recall that being mentioned before. Can't bring to mind a specific case at the moment, but like I say I've seen it before, different sources having more than one recognized 'synonym' for a fish until it's officially described, one circle of experts using one term and another using an alternate term.

I was going off the info in the Wiedner book as well. Years ago I was lucky enough to pick up a copy for $50.

OH = RH, same fish. I have seen them up to 7+".

BTW - Matty, nice looking set up! Even if it isn't long term.
Thanks! I love the plain and simple sand and rock looks. So easy to do, and I found literally just "dropping" rocks in, instead of carefully arranging gives a more natural look.

+1. I've seen people insist on one or the other name, but neither is official and people use both. Like a lot of species, size can vary a little, they may stay smaller for some people. But whatever combination of food, water, or genes played a role, my males were consistently over 6 inches. Females a bit smaller.

Active fish ime, meaning I agree with your conclusion, Matt, 40 gal is small for an adult group in the long term. But in a tank with room they're compatible with a range of other relatively peaceful SA cichlids of varying size. Mine did great with rotkeil sevs, for example.
Any ideas on stocking for my new 180? It would have said geos, with leopard bush fish (ctenopoma acutirostre - he is hiding in the corner of the 40gal, really awesome personable fish) and 10 x Siamese algae eaters. So I was going for river type fish and set up.
I was thinking silver dollars (school of 15) or some Uaru's? Do you think a 180 would be to small for all them? (SD, Geo, Uaru, SAE, CA?). They are all relatively peaceful fish.

Uaru get big like 14" big. Thats way to big for 180. Personally I dislike SDs so I'm not good to ask about those. But size wise itd be better.
What about a school of say 5-7 Thorichthys? Not meeki one of the other ones like hellri, aureus, ellioti. Or if you like the uaru look maybe A group of rainbow cichlids? I think they are multispinosa....maybe? Those are like 4 to 7" I think. Ive had some of these fish listed above through out the years most are fairly peaceful.
You could cram a huge cichlid in the tank but I think a lot more moderately sized ones looks better.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will look into them.
I was also thinking last night maybe some Heros/Severums instead.

I decided not to keep my 180 too fully stocked. Just keeping the 7 geos, 15 x silver dollars, and 15 x Siamese algae eaters.
They all seem happy in the new tank.
