Sorry man.
This is the exact same way I lost my prized Festae.
It’s tough to loose an animal you’ve grown attached to.
Did you you ever figure out what the exact issue was ?

I really dont think this was dropsey at least compared to the one time i've encountered it.

Would swim bladder kill so fast ?

I tried everything I could think of.
I moved him to a 30 gallon treated with kanaplex, metroplex, Fish Mox , and epsom salt. He was laying on his side I would right him and he would flip back over to his side.
I even sedated him with clove oil and tried to vent his swim bladder.
Nothing worked.
I even consider a fish vet but closest one to me was a three hour drive one way

To answer your question more directly. No I never found out for sure what the issue was.
I’m my case I just assume there were some underlying internal issues.
I did get some air out while venting but the next day he was bloated and on his side again.
Maybe it was an infection of some kind that the meds I used wouldn’t kill.

Wow very similar man. I didnt get that far. Kept him upright for most of the night and tried to help him swim periodically. Even tried to force some peas down but they just fell out.

They'll be fine part of life something all of ua have to learn, sucks to see them this upset though. Had the whole story planned out and was stuttering not half way through. They didnt believe me until they checked for the tank. Then shhhhh hit the fan.

Man that sucks. Sorry for the loss.

The best way to deal with fish death...
a trip to lfs to see some new possible grow outs. Well that’s what I do, after I’m done sulking and questioning if I should keep going. Lol

Oh no that just made matters worse. I tried bribing them with all sorts of fish. Aros, cats, more bichirs. I think when things settle down and our move is complete i'll let them pick something nice out.
