I would not keep Gymnos with any Central Americans (but I am a bit anal) because of the winter cool downs.
I used to let my Gymno tanks drop into the low 60sF and even into the high 50sF.
I found that cool down did lots of good for color and health.

Took this shot below right after cool down, just as temps were brought up to around70'F
.

The photo above a grow out tank of Australoheros fry, and below a Gymnogeophagus community tank.
Wow! Okay thanks for the advice! Thats way cooler than I expected. They were an impulse buy from my LFS. Im in socal so before winter time comes again ill probably have to set up a separate cooler tank. Great looking gymnos btw!

If you ever do it consider a net over it. My brother in law lost many koi to racoons until he put a net over. Lives close to Venice in the middle of the city but racoons are everywhere all over the city

Here are some clearer shots of my dominant male. In the third pic is my smallest female with him to show size difference. she is about 1.5 in and he is about 3ish in just eye balling. I will load the pics of the other 3 aureum later which 2 of them I believe to be male and one im hoping to be female. She is as large as the dominant male but not as colorful/fins arent has pointed. I dont see the presence of trailers staring to emerge like it is on him. They are in a 75 gal. With 3 female red head geos that are 5in each.and 2 small juvenile meeki around 1-2 in.
