I'll keep it short because I understand totally, Pops.
Before my eye surgery I didn't wanna read anymore.

I own 1500 books and I've even read some twice, but I literally quit because of the strain.
The eye surgery made it possible again.

Our weather is wet and my arthritic elbow hurts when I type.

Digitizers have been obsolete for 20 years, but I still have digitizer elbow.
It's a techie version of the traditional washer-woman's elbow.

So . . . . . . education doesn't solve everything. :shakehead

Hello; Unfortunately I have know a number of children in a similar situation. In my country a child can equal to several forms of government assistance. For some having children is a way to make a living.
One afternoon when I parked my school bus at the end of the day I found a little fellow asleep in one of the seats. I called the school to let the principal know in case anyone was concerned. No one had noticed he was not home at the regular time. I drove him home in my car and went in to tell the parents what had happened. They had not even noticed him missing and did not seem too concerned. I saw the nasty place where he had to sleep.
A child is beer and cigarette money, maybe drugs as well. I have some ideas I think would work but would never be put into action.

I recall a few posts back the notion of not having children being discussed. Among the other reasons I decides to remain childless one of the lesser ones was my childhood. Not as bad as you describe but nothing to be inspired about. It saddens me to hear about your story. I do not actually know you other than on this forum, but I think I like you and wish you well.

Tax rates now are some of the lowest they have ever been for the wealthy. Most of your parents/grandparents/great grandparents generations generally thought the wealthy should contribute more and they did significantly more so back then. The huge prosperity that the boomers experienced was largely a result of their parents benefiting from postwar programs such as the GI bill. Unfortunately a fair amount of boomers seemed to not know/understand/ care about the benefits they received from their parents having free schooling and medical care for themselves and their children. The movement now is to change things back to what they were during the greatest generations time, not to do anything radically different. From the ones i have spoken with, a lot of them have different politics from the young people that came after them.

It would also help to take action against the federal reserve.

Hello; Unfortunately much of your post gets into political stuff so I will leave that alone. For a few other ideas forgive me if I have misunderstood your intent.
First is that somehow a person of wealth owes the rest of us some of their wealth just because we happen to need or want more than we have. It is their wealth and if they decide to share that is fine. If the idea is to take away some of their wealth just because they have extra, that is not acceptable to me.

Pretty sure the GI bill is still around and is being used.

Not sure where the notion of us boomers ( I am one) ever having free health care came from. I was 27 years old before I got any health insurance and while it was not too expensive it was never free. I paid out of pocket before that or just endured.

I will not touch the federal reserve bit as you were very vague so I do not know what you meant.

The defacto state animal is now the rat. LA now is under real threat of rat-borne plague.
The drugs aren't killing fast enough, so this is how they solve the homeless problem promptly: Pneumonic plague.
 
Who remembers Ed Sullivan? They always had some juggler on the show who would spin several plates in the air, on sticks, all at once. He'd walk around and frequently give each stick a nudge to keep them all spinning.

That's how I've been operating 10 aquariums. I got one running and set up another one, and another, etc, and then went back nudging them frequently to keep everything going.

We've had some rough weather in this area over the past few days with heavy rains and storms.Some areas were hit really hard and there is plentu of property damage.
It's one thing to see a full grown tree uprooted and laying on it's side but it's quite another to see it actually happen.They had amazing video footage of just that on the news this morning.The tree was ripped from the ground and dumped on top of the car that was parked next to it.
