Just rescued this cichlid and i was wondering what type it was

Africans are pretty skittish when they are by themselves, you should probably get a few females (yellow labs) to make him happy.

In a 30 gallon, that male would be better off just hanging with the loach. Pretty tight space to be dropping females in. I kept & bred this species for several years and IMO a 55 gallon is pretty much minimum tank size for a breeding group.

Agree,
when I had them, they easily grew to almost 6" as adults, what I would consider 3" too large for a 30 gal tank.
