Keep an eye on your pads. Depending on what you use, the water flow may punch a hole in your pads
Builder stated he would be getting me some sort of plastic sheet to go over the filter pad?

Good looking out!

Builds coming together nicely, don’t rush it now. Your going to need to drill a overflow in the sump for the drip. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but your drain in the wall looks higher then the sump... you might need to setup a ato to get that water to the drain.

Good advice about the rushing!

Ya, not super happy with builder guy... I asked him how high to put the drain. I say 22” he “says ya that’s good”...

The sump was supposed to be 24” tall not 20” ... moving on... water level in sump at 10”

I can probably move the drain lower, but this “ato” you speak of may be easier. Auto top off?

I’m gonna use that to pump water out when it gets too high?

Yes auto top off, If you can lower the drain that would be what I would recommend to do. Other wise your relying on a electric pump to do it for you. If you lost power or the pump failed that could be a problem.

I had looked at the gravity fed system that is a pvc rectangle if you will, once water level in sump gets to certain height water spills out and over into drain, to do this id need my drain at least 12” lower... that may not be a reality...

Ideally I put one of those little sensors in the sump and when water gets to say 11” it kicks on and pumps out 1” of water. Ideally I’d like to change 20 - 40 gallons a day based on Nitrate...

I’m gonna look at it tomorrow, where it ends up 18’ away is 5”-7” off the slab... was trying to get a good pitch...

I hear you about the power outages n such... guess echotech has a battery back up... I do live in an urban center and power outages are rare and never last for more than a few hours.

Thanks for the input!

I use a similar ATO currently, Smart ATO. I'm curious as to how you were thinking to use this one to pump water out of your sump? Thanks.

It looks like I need to continuously pump 60ml -120ml per minute for 24 hours based on 20g-40g per day water change.

I’ve never set one up/tried one, I’d presume tubing goes in sump and one in drain. Drip in cold water and that’s it... or is it?

I wonder which method is better? That vs. say pump out 20g- 40g’s via large pump quickly and dump in via 1/2” water line 20g -40g’s after pump takes it out...

I’ll probably go with the echotech if I slow pump/trickle. I have a spare large pump for the other route.

Background with me; Typically in salt water you use it to maintain salinity and constant level of the sump. For our freshwater I find it also helps to maintain the sump water level so the return pump returns constant rate. So rather than filling the sump each day, I fill the reservoir every 9-10 days.

In your application, if I understand correctly you want it to pump water OUT of your sump when it reaches a specified level. Is this correct?

ATO typically used to pump water IN when the water level evaporates to a certain level on the sump.

ya, I think opposite is what I’m researching, if I drip water in via ice maker line, then when the sump gets to a certain level it pumps out excess versus overflowing sump.

or...

I pump out at the same rate I drip in. Not sure if this is efficient...

or...

I tap into one of the drains put a T and a valve on it hook that up to my wall drain...

or...

Big pump water out. Don’t have a good system to let in 20g - 40gallons quickly.

i have got a little time until I have to think about water changes...

Based on what I've read, you could drill and add a bulkhead with a drain out. As new water is added (however you decide), the sump will fill. When it reaches the bulkhead drain, then water flows out. I think that's similar to what you intended with the wall drain? So really just gravity fed if lower drain. Less chance of failure.
