Hi everyone.
Long time reader and brand new member to MFK.
Was wondering if I could bother the community to help me ID this girl.
Sold as “pike cichlid” from local fish store
She’s about 7-8” almost 2yrs old

Thanks

Hmmm. Difficult to tell. Does she ever get bars or other patterns when in stress mode? If so, do you have a pic? Given its complete lack of spangling, it’s definitely an inland species.

She does get barred and much darker in general, when stressed or hunting/excited.

Looks like one of the saxatills variants to me, but since there are almost 150 species and variants of pike cichlids, and about half are hard to tell apart, its like a needle in a .......

Always suspected she’s in the Saxatills bunch.

what size will she max out at would you guess?
Her growth has slowed down considerably over the last 6 months to a year. Maybe 8”?
