Hi

i am fairly experienced with keeping different fish but have never kept piranhas

I have done some research. is it ok to mix cariba juveniles with red bellys?

i can see cariba are more aggressiv.

note it will be a big group In a 2500 litre tank.

if not mixing then which would you personally recommend out of the two and why.

thanks

i can get caribe piranha of 3-4 cm and ordinary red bellies 4-5cm. thinking of mixing a group - anybody advise if this is a bad idea?

thanks

If they are all around same size it should be good but caribe have been known to be segregated from RBP of 3 or more.

when you say be segregated is that because RBP attacked caribe or caribe attacked rbp?

it is 2500 so thinking to start with 20 of each? or maybe 30 rbp and 10 caribe?

I need to order by 4pm today in order to get caribe so any advice appreciated...

thanks

It was a size issue, the Cariba was fairly large, not sure who provoked who.
2500 gallon ? I don’t go by liters

And if your getting that many Piranha I would recommend a 500 g or more. (That might be too conservative even.) 40 fish ?!?that can easily grow over 10-14 inches respectively In captivity deserve a **** ton of room. Not sure if your allowed to swear on these forums o.0 anyways. I’m not trying to be a dick but that is a freaken ton of fish your getting. You need a Fluval FX 6 at the very least. With power jets in each corner of the tank.

Have you kept Cariba before ?
theze guys are known to bite your fingers and such when feeding.

its approx 550 gallons + the sump. I figure to start with 40 I will probably end with 20-30?

i have never kept piranha but i am very experienced with other predatory fish.

my concern is whether it is best to avoid mixing the different species or if the mixing would be ok.

660gallons ? sounds pretty tits...

i had 25-30 caribe (grow out) in an 8’x30”

ya, if your tank is 3x’s that... used to be 20g per fish... so 33? you’re probably good with 40...
