I just wanted to share this video I found online. They sell you fish in a reusable glass jar that get sterilized after each use. This just blows my mind. Not to mention the fish collection. I've also seen other store tours, these guys are way ahead of the rest of the world.

Germany is a different place. Anyone who is subscribed to the Amazonas magazine knows this, super high quality keeping there.

The Germans in particular have always been into fishkeeping and make some of the best stuff. Eheims are by far the most reliable filter I have used. I have one that is about 20 years old and has only needed an impeller replaced once or twice.
Lots of times the info I can find about obscure fish online (cichlids mostly) comes from germany or holland as well. They have some great websites you can run thru google translate.

Exactly, the stuff you see online and on magazines and in shows is just insane. You feel like you're getting the scraps lol. But you gotta enjoy what you have I guess. The stuff in north America makes me jealous enough, but the Germans just make me wanna cry lol.

That's honestly beyond insane. Any idea how many people are employed to keep that running?

Just made a short visit to a german breeder for lake Malawi cichlids today - Aquahaus Gaus.

2500 Tanks with a total of 1000000 Liters / 264000 gallons of water.

They do not sell any wild caught fish. Most fish are f1 and quite good quality.

We rushed through it and it still took us 1.5 hours ?.

I don't know how many people work there. I saw two maybe three people selling fish to the customers. But the shop is 3000 square meter / 32300 square feet. So it is impossible to see all the people at once.
The owner told me they sell over 90% of their fish online. So they need some people to pack te fish.
The tubing on the tanks looks pretty efficient. I guess two people can do all the waterchanges and daily maintenance within a few hours.

I was on a family trip. Otherwise I would have spend the whole day there.

I lived in Germany for a few years, once used to some of the very weird rules I ended up really enjoying it. Some great fish breeders and collectors and a culture of maximising efficiency, like knowing the optimum flow rate for bb hence hmf filters. Being an hours ride from the nurburgring was an added bonus.
Worked in Holland for a while and a very similar fish keeping culture as well.
