The tank is like 3 gallons I think (I have a larger 10’gallon I can move them to if that’s more preferable. I actually just did a 20 percent water change just now and it was such a pain since the fry swim low in a corner and I kept sucking up a few. Ended up using a sringe to get them back in the tank. However still a lot of uneaten food/ gunk in their side even after the water change. Any advice to remove it? If I siphoned there with my airline tubing it would have definitely sucked up most of the fry. However on a good note, they seem to enjoy the egg yolk and start swimming more frantically once I added it so I’m assuming a good portion of them are eating it. Thanks!
I'd leave it for now. You can always siphon it up later throughout the day when there ain't so many babies by it. Also if ya got any I would recommend adding in a small fake plant, something real bushy, so that they have a place where they can all gather and feel safe. I would place it towards the center of the tank so that all the left over food is left behind in the corners.

As for how often to feed your fry I would say 5-6x a day for the first few weeks, atleast till they start to show their true shape. After that then I would go down to only 2-3x a day untill it's an adult and then ya only need to feed 1-2x a day from then on.

I had java moss in it before but removed it since it got kinda in the way of siphoning lol. I’ll add it back in (maybe it’ll hold some inforsia for them to eat if I’m gone). I do have plastic plants so I’ll add one in. 5-6 times is a lot lol idk if I can really do that but I’ll try! Probably end up doing 3 times a day and daily siphoning. They have started to swim more mid level so it’ll be easier to siphon now. Thanks for the response again!!

Hey all I got a shot of my angelfish fry during feeding. I squirted in some egg yolk but not sure if they are actually eating. Can anyone let me know if this is eating behavior or is it hard to tell lol. When I put in food, they seem to stop congregating in the corner and start moving around and swimming towards the food so it’s a good sign. I’ll probably siphon out the food tonight! Thanks!

A frenzy looks like there eating. Look at their bellies should be a little bulge. I suggest you pickup a magnifying glass they come in handy.

Ik atleast with feeding brine shrimp you should see the color of it in their stomach so maybe adding some food coloring to the egg yolk might do the same? Not sure if it would be safe to use for fish or not.

That’s a good idea actually. I’ll just probably look closer with a magnifying class cause I’m afraid it’ll turn my water blue lol. Thanks for suggestion! I’ll update through the whole process whether they survive or not.

Hey guys, so good and bad news today. The angelfish fry are eating really good on the egg yolk and have yellowish white bellies and will frenzy when I add in the food. However, everyday I find 5 or so fry dead in my HOB filter probably from being sucked in. I used to use some filter sponges and rubber band them on but i saw today there were a few gaps so I replaced it and made a hole in a cylindrical sponge which should be fry safe. Will keep this updated with pics and vids soon!

Friday Update!! Fry are doing relatively well although I definitely lost around 15 fry by now through filter issues (that I fixed) and just premature death. The remaining are eating well which is a good sign and it seems I still have around 50-80 fry left. I did find that around 20 fry are cowering the bottom while the others will swim around so not sure what’s up with that. I am currently feeding 3-5 times a day on egg yolk and doing 10-20 percent water changes daily siphoning away the uneaten food. Is this enough or should I be doing more maintenance? Also when can I transition to crushed massivores pellets or crushed flakes? Thanks!

I am a believer that angel fry need live food initially. I found after about 10 days I could start mixing frozen cyclops in with the live BBS and the angels in their feeding frenzy would eat them. Every day after that I decresed the live portion and increased the frozen and had them off of live in a week. I was quickly convinced I did not want to breed angels as I was getting 100s of eggs/spawn.

I was told by folks who did breed angels that I would need 2 x 55 gal. tanks for each breeding pair to house their fry. They also suggested a large fish to which I could feed the angel culls of which there would be many. That is why I never became an angel breeder.
