People hate on hikari but I've had very good success with their first bites fry food. I've raised fry from guppies to dovii and everything in between, until they are large enough to take micro pellets, and then on to larger foods.
Yeah I was thinking of getting that and I religiously feed my monster fish hikari ?. My datnoid and lapradei bichir love itPeople hate on hikari but I've had very good success with their first bites fry food. I recommend to still feed them and live baby brine will be better as beginning fry food.Hey guys! Here’s a long overdue update. I’ve been busy with finals (college is annoying lol) but here is what happened for the last few weeks:
I am down to only 3 angelfish fry but these are doing super well and growing like crazy so I think I’ll be able to successfully grow these into juveniles and then into adults!
The large amount of deaths is saddening but I’ve come up with 2 culprits:
1) the egg yolk may not be a sufficient food source for the young
2) I did daily water changes for the first 2 weeks and found that during this time most of the fry died. I’m assuming since I added cold dechlorinated tap water straight into the tank. The change in temp probably shocked the fry and killed them.
Next time I raise these fry I’ll def keep consistent water temp and feed better food!
On the bright side however, I’ve just ordered 2 packs of hikari first bites and will give this a try. I’m honestly just trying to get 40 percent survivability so hopefully this will work out well.
I’ve attacked pics of the current fry. They are already “baby guppy size” and have top and bottom fins, resembling angelfish. I’ll keep this updated weekly to show their growths.
Also, I’ve actually stopped feeding them as I’ve found a decent amount of tiny detritus worms that are on the glass and the angelfish have been using this as a live food. My goal is to keep their current tank running and grow this colony since once the fry get a bit larger this can act as a very easy and clean food source. Any thoughts on this? Have you guys experienced angelfish fry eating detritus worms?

Since they spawn so often I think I’ll try the fry food first and afterwards try baby brine. Obviously the brine will be much better for them but I rather not deal with the hassle of hatching them (although I know it isn’t difficult) if I can!I recommend to still feed them and live baby brine will be better as beginning fry food.
I'd say it was most likely the temp change that killed em. Angelfish are very touchy when it comes to temp changes and only a 2-3° temp shift can be enough to kill em. Also I would rely on the ditritus worms as a full on food source. Eventually as those angels get bigger they will even deplete the numbers in the tank and be left with next to nothing for food long term. As a grazing item in the tank they should work just fine to keep em fat and happy between feedings.Hey guys! Here’s a long overdue update. Yeah once they get larger I’ll continue feeding crushed flakes/pellets and also the hikari fry food if they are interested. I think within 2 weeks they should be large enough to take flakes so hopefully by then the detritus worms don’t run out! I’m def checking them each day as well!I'd say it was most likely the temp change that killed em.
