Please identify the fish for me

Hello, newbie question. Can you please identify the cichlid for me? Looks like a pretty common one. The LFS guy said he forgot the name of the fish. He remembered the price tag though. Sold it to me for less than a dollar. This cichlid looks quite aggressive to me. Have put it in quarantine tank for a few hours before I have your expert opinion. Is it a texas (wild guess)?

It looks like one of the Herichthys genus, probably carpintus. But all the true Herichthys look very similar as juvies which this is.

Herichthys Cyanoguttatus is scientific name for the Green Texas Cichlid.

Common names get confusing... the "normal" texas is H cyanoguttatus. The "blue" or "electric blue" etc. is H. Caprintis. Your fish looks like carpintis to me.

Agree, because, none of the others come from Texas, only cyanoguttatus.
Calling any of the other Herichthys Texas, is an oxymoron.

Are you sure on the common name? I don't recall the H cyanoguttatus having any color associated with the common name texas. The " green texas" tends to have really large spots

Confusing but after looking at the OP pic you're probably correct.

C confusedfishkeeper looks like a carpintis they get beautiful here's mine hes still a baby but they have amazing color
