Yea that’s what I’ve been looking at but then I’m questioning it because mine is a darker gray and all pictures of G. Typus I find online they’re are pinkish

Well whatever it is, it's super rare. Haven't had such a difficult time identifying a fish in ages.

Lmao I think we can settle on it being G. Typus and I think we can count it as rare since it took two people 40 minutes to ID it but seriously thank you so much for the help really when I heard my pet store say they only get this fish every several years I had to buy it on spot but finally I got answers it’s 4:30 am here and I’m going to sleep btw today’s the day I get a pacu so I’ll update that the second I get to the store and buy it goodnight everyone I’m exhausted

Just for reference you can tell it’s not channallabes as they do not have pelvic fins.

Expect this fish to be an excellent escape artist.

There are quite a number of eel like species of clariid catfishes, but G. typus from Nigeria seems to be the only one to make it into the aquarium trade with any regularity.

I'm no help but he's amazing. I love non-poisonus snakes and eels and creatures that have that body type. Though I won't get any right now. Still tempted to get kuhli loaches for the 20 gallon in the future.
