Flowerhorn fry not eating a lot

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
since energy is never destroyed only transferred the spinning impellers energy is released as heat. if you touch your pump housing right after your filter is running it will be hot. if a propeller is placed underwater and spun quickly it will release its energy as heat. if the tank is sealed the temperature of the water will rise because the heat cant escape.
Science lol, the FH filter isn’t strong enough to produce that energy

What about this I can order tomorrow I don’t really have room for any other plug ins but I’ll just take out my phone charger and put the heater plug there and keep my phone charged before night C0CA1010-472C-4337-9CCC-57D6963BF99C.png

id personally get a hitop for the same price for that size tank but thats just because im picky with heaters because i often dont keep track of the temp in my tanks and i want to know theyre reliable. i use hitop on small tanks and eheim on larger tanks. whatever you choose im sure will work fine.

will you be plugging it straight into the wall or into a power strip? you could blow a circuit by plugging aquarium heaters straight into an outlet.

They’re all into a power strip

I’m using water I’ve had stores in my room for a month (my mom used it for water changes but now we know that our tap water doesn’t have any chlorine in it so she’s been using that and doing smaller water changes) so the water is cycled I’ve tested it several times and the and the water parameters are good, the only smaller food I have are betta bites but they’re way too small the current pellets should be small enough View attachment 1459850View attachment 1459851
When I first got my flower horn Eddie I fed him on small 1mm pellets untill he was about 3 inch. I found if I tried him on larger pellets he would get fed up with it and not eat so much but did a lot better with the smaller pellets. Once he hit the 3 inch mark I moved him on to medium size hikari pellets he will swallow down a good ten at feeding times now no problems. He's going on 6inch now.

You weren't ready for the fish at all. Bad environment, no light or heater, underfiltered and fed too large feed. No light means no color will develop.
This is not a fry but a juvenile. Get rid of it until you are ready for one.

i dont disagree or agree but why do you think light matters? some of the most beautiful cichlids being bred are in vats with no artificial light and phytoplankton making the water dark(ive only seen hybrid fish in very controlled environments though). i didnt have lights on my rack of flowerhorns for about a year because they were infront of a window and the tanks were dark for most the day but were fully lit up(like blinding) for an hour a day and they got very used to that amount of light. when i added artificial light they were unaccustomed to the light cycle and brightness and it made them lose most their color and made them very shy and it took them a few months to get back to normal. so its just been my experience that fish have the best color when theyre in the conditions theyre used to. ive heard this about flowerhorns and light before but it never made very much sense to me. itd make sense if his flowerhorn was going to get dull color from the color of his environment but not light.

You need to treat a flowerhorn with a lot of care I've kept fish for 20 years and never had a fish as sensitive as Eddie, it could be just my experience but one slip of a water parameter and I can tell straight away, keep on top of him.

Dose he have a proper tank yet?
He’s in a 20 gallon tote for a couple months and I’ve started doing chores for money around the house and for my mamaw and papas and my mamaw and papaw have a lot of money and a lot around the house going on so it shouldn’t be long until I can get something for my catfish and arowana and move the FH to the 40 gal until I get a 90 gal from my lfs
