Been researching a lot of species of driftwoood catfish I’ve came to the conclusion that a species of driftwood catfish will be what I will be getting for a 75g. Really love jag cats along with jaguar dolphin catfish but I think they get a bit too big for 75g. Any ideas?

Jag cats will be fine for a 75g. Dolphin cat would be fine solo or with slightly bigger tankmates than itself. Then may need bigger than a 75g. Active swimmer at night.

IDK what a jaguar dolphin catfish is. Is it a species from the Ageneiosus genus https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/genus.php?genus_id=105 ? Fish from this genus appear to be an exception in the family in that they don't hide but swim constantly.

In general, the rule of thumb is that the minimum tank footprint size is 4L x 2L where L is the total length of fish. For an active swimmer, it is larger, like 6L x 3L. So for one-foot fish, the minimum tank length and width are 4'x2' and 6'x3'. You can run down the list of your candidates by their max size and see which ones fit this requirement... if your plan is to keep them in that 75 gal until they reach their max size.

Not good with dimensions. Is 4x2’ a 75g

It depends on the height of the tank. To measure the gallons of a tank, multiply the Length x Width x Height and divide by 231, this will give you the approximate gallons of the tank.

Or use the calculator from the forum Calculate Tank Volume

e.g.:

4'x2'x2' = 120 gal
4'x2'x1.5' = 90 gal
