Started a deep dive into reptiles a few months ago (had been on my mind to get a snake for a couple years) but really started to research snakes, specially the green tree python and Brazilian rainbow boa. Ultimately I chose the GTP as I thought it maybe fit my lifestyle a little better, something that doesn’t really want the constant attention etc,.

It’s a juvenile farmed Biak that had been established from BushMasters, the US CBB are ungodly expensive. It’s in a 36x18x18 pvc cage with a screen cutout on the top for increased ventilation. I’m still pretty weary how the vivarium will turn out as I’m concerned about respiratory infections, I’m prepared to dump all the substrate and just keep the plants in potted planters if need be but for now will just monitor. Less than 12 hours in and it’s already eating, hasn’t struck at me yet either so I’m pretty happy so far!

If anyone has or had one of these please let me know any useful tips or things to avoid with them, I know the cage is quite large for this size but I wanted the snake to thermoregulate and closed the open space as best I could to make it feel secure.

How big is that enclosure??

I have always loved GTPs, but after a brief but decisive discussion with the better half, have come to the conclusion I can't keep one in the house,?

its a 36x18x18 PVC but as of 30 minutes ago, it’s just a snakeless vivarium lol

knew it was a real possibility the snake could go into hiding from being placed into a large enclosure (was in a 6 quart box which is like a small pair of shoes). Woke up this morning and it was under the moss which is a red flag for these guys so I’ve moved it into 15 quart plastic tub for now with pvc perches until it goes back to normal behavior

Did you also look into emerald tree boa?
I did, it’s tough to find a baby emerald tree boa, even farmed. Most ETBs come in as imported juveniles and aren’t exactly friendly. I’ll admit they are better looking tbh, especially the Amazon Basins, but that will run you 2-4K ?

I used to think fish were expensive until I looked into reptiles, especially new morphs etc,

Made a few adjustments that are wiser in the long run, removed the substrate and added potted plants, half real and half fake for humidity and cover. Took out the ceramic heat emitter and installed a radiant heat panel for more controlled temps. I got a little paranoid over the risk of respiratory infections on these guys in bioactives. Also reduced some of the perch sizes from 8-12mm and dimmed the LEDs so it was a little more natural as they’re mostly nocturnal.

Ate his second fuzzy last night so happy with the current status although it’s found a planter in the back wall where it likes to hide during the day. Ridiculously active at night cruising the tank so I’m not worried about dehydration. These things are work!
