New Fahaka Puffer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I’d get it out of the 10 sooner rather than later, but it isn’t going to kill it by leaving it in until 3-4 inches. Use your judgement, if it looks like he wants more space, give it to him.
I’d worry about the convict more than the puffer...these guys are dangerous.
Slow down on the bloodworms, fish get addicted, and he won’t want anything else (may want to separate the mollies during that time period). When he realizes there is nothing to eat but the snails, he will. I’ve found that my Amazon puffers (really picky) like mysis shrimp a lot. Much more nutritious than brine or bloodworms. As he ages, he will probably want mostly large crustaceans like shrimps and crayfish.

Thanks! I appreciate your advice. I might just get another tank like a 30 or 40 and have it set up and ready for the puffer. He seems to be fine in the 10 for now and always follows me around. The convict is a beater fish so it's ok lol. They are breeding like crazy so I just use the fry as feeders for my other predatory fish.

Should I reseal my 150 tank or just purchase a new or used one that's in good condition? The top corner opened up and about 50% of water leaked out

If the glass has opened up then you need to take off the complete panel and then attach it again after that you reseal.
If you have the time go for it. Cause it requires patience, if you hurry you'll fail and the tank will leak.
If not then get another tank.
BTW if you go with repairing the old leaking tank, do attach some glass brace bars on the top for extra support.
What dimension is the 150?

Thanks for the advice I'll definitely look into some glass brace bars, tbh I don't remember the exact dimensions but its 5 feet then idk how tall but its pretty tall and about 18 inches wide

By the dimension you mention your tank might be a 140 which is 60*18*30 . 5ft*1.5ft*2.5ft . The height is a bit out of proportion compared to the width and thus the panel openend up.
If you reseal do use "Euro bracing" For best results.

if you want fast growth daily water changes of 3 gallons is the way to go for the 10g tank
Are these guys painfully slow like other puffers or do they pack on size fast?

Mine is growing slowly but steady. My friend got one at the same time and same size his is twice as big as mine atm. He put his in a 125 upon receiving it. Mine went from a 35 to a 90 over the course of a year. His next tank is a 125 soon. I noticed a growth spurt after the move to the larger tank.

Would the 140 be ok with tankmates? I bought it on offer up so I probably got played lol. Yeah it has a top panel that some a**hole workers stepped on when I had it in my patio and I think that's what later caused the split. I'll see if I can order some from amazon or my local homedepot
