So- the fish in this post ( not mine, but others from the same fishing trip) have been checked out in person pretty thoroughly by dr loiselle and he apparently thinks they are something new. To my eye they are different in many ways to the Corue I have from Costa Rica, as well as Duanes.

I look at the orange seam on the fish you posted and to me that says latifrons or pulcher. Or a hybrid of the 2. Blue acaras have been in the trade for so long and for probably 40-50 years you could get multiple species in the same shipment labeled as “blue acara” so without provenance it’s hard to call them anything but “blue acara”

I appreciate the help. The latifrons I've seen usually make it to the 5 to 7 inch mark like most sites online suggest they do. As far the puncher goes most places say they reach 6 to 8 inches. I've never had one get past 5 inches personally. The one pictured is just a little over 3.5 inches making me think it might be the puncher.

I've done a decent amount of reading on the andinoacara family and have seen several variations with my own eyes. It's always better to have someone else identify them as well to add a little confidence to my guess. The acara pictured in the op seems to have almost a white coloration on my screen. I've not seen anything online or in person that looks like that. I'd like to see these hit the market for me to buy

Moved the first pair inside the house into a heated tank a few days ago and…. They are currently spawning. The fry from the first spawn are growing well but still another month or so from being big enough for distribution. With this tank, I’ll be able to keep it lit when the room is dark and I expect I’ll get some good pictures.

For reference just how spectacular these fish ar3 here is the female- just remarkably showy unfortunately she tore off the males even more impressive trailers. I can not sex the fish other than by their tubes, and his torn off fin extensions. At this age/ size there are no differences visible.
