Hi everyone,

just trying to research if using a white background brings out the colour and shine of the fish? And long term if it could have any negative effects, besides needing cleaning. Or it’s just best to go with black background to the tank?
thanks

do you mean painting the back of the tank or buying a background?

sorry I should have been more specific. Like the two tanks below, I see lots of retailers using white tanks, but is this going to cause the colours to fade on fish over the years? Maybe A silly presumption but I’m curious as I’ve never had a white clinical looking tank before.

thanks

how many gallons are those
what are you going to stock it with?

you can just buy them from a manufacturer, this one is 6ft by 4ft internal I’m planning-
asian arowana
datnoid
BD stingray
maybe some catfish like tigrinus or some birchir and plecos but undecided on these

just trying to decide if the colours would look better on the white background or if it might have long term effects on fish colouration. Was thinking black will be easy for cleaning but white might look cool and make the fish more vibrant.

thanks

personally i would go white, as i went all black with mine for the same reason you have stated in that its easier to look clean but i found it too dark imo.
i would probably lean towards white bottom and black sides on my next tank, but i've been told that XB/gold aro's prefer white tanks where as reds do better in darker tanks, but i could be wrong.
