Anyone here have experience with a website by the name of Bluegrass Aquatics? They've been on my radar for a while but I've never ordered from them. Seem to have some cool oddballs. Is it legit, and do they provide good quality fish?

I have ordered from the sister site Tampabaycichlids several times, same owner, and it’s always been a good experience, good communication, good quality fish and well packaged.

I’ve ordered from them twice. First time went pretty well, but a rotkiel was doa (looked like the bag leaked). They reimbursed me for it.
Second order was no problems.
Fish were all in good condition both times (minus the dead sev) and packaged well. Cheap shipping as well which is a bonus.

Have only had negative experiences with tbc and bluegrass. Didn’t know they were under the same ownerrship when I tried bluegrass but the fish came packed the same and were pathetic.

every fish I’ve gotten through David Estes has arrived sickly and with a hollow belly. Have had Africans ARRIVE WITH ICH- not have it show up a few days later in quarRiine - but straight up white spots / ich on fish that were still in the bag that I was unboxing.

I’ve mentionedbefore- I have more fish spawn in quarantine than fish that get sick in quarantine. That has nothing to do with my skills as a breeder and everything to do with who I choose to get fish from, and how well they keep them.

find another source

Haven’t done any business with him in 2 plus years at this point- can’t imagine he’s turned things around.

My only experience with them was some years ago but very disappointing, 2 out of 3 of the fish I ordered were the wrong species. One of the wrong fish was an equally nice species to what I ordered, but the other incorrect species were common, inexpensive Burundi frontosa shipped to me as more expensive C. gibberosa (I forget the location they were supposed to be from). The difference is subtle at smaller sizes but since then I've bred C. gibberosa kapampa and know the difference. However, at the time, while I was suspicious, I wasn't certain and hoped for the best, only to confirm after several months they were Burundi of common lfs quality and not what I paid for, meaning I had to buy again from another source to get what I wanted.

It made it too late to get back to them and seek a remedy, except to vow I'd never buy from them again.

As of some years ago, my understanding was that Bluegrass and David Estes are the front for the well known wholesaler Segrest Farms, Gibsonton (Tampa Bay area), Florida, selling retail. I am pretty sure but perhaps someone knows different or something has changed since then?

I never bought anything from them. I don't recall why. I remember I wanted to.

No idea on that, but it would seem odd considering any time I've looked, half the stuff on the Bluegrass list is out of stock?
