Looks like they prefer live foods from my readings on planet catfish, but will eat just about anything. Likely preys on crustaceans and small fish.
He loves having the female bettas around him in his cave and has never attacked them. You think I could breed dwarf Mexican lobsters in a like 2g tank to feed to the eel cat? Also the mouth of the cat is a lot smaller than you’d think.

This might sound hard to believe but I’ve never had a single problem with missing or dead fish in the tank with the eel catfish. They all live together and don’t bother eachother.
Interesting…I’d usually expect most cats this size to make fish disappear.

Might just want to do cherry shrimp…cheaper.
Either way 2 gallons won’t give much space for good breeding.
Might be able to get away with breeding scuds and pond snails in that size though, as long as you stay on top of maintenance (as in don’t do what I did lol). I doubt they are something the eel cat would eat, but do make great cleanup crew/feeders for small fish.

He’s very slender and elongated. If I had to guess I’d say about 9 inches long but only like and inch thick. He’s got decent size but can definitely be kept in a common sized aquarium and is very active early morning. It’s interesting to have a fish that isn’t kept in the US. And for good reason ? I feel lucky to have this guy in my possession

Not familiar with scuds. Can you explain what they are and their needs. I’ll also do research but are they easy to breed?

Scuds is the common name for many species of freshwater amphipods. I breed them for pufferfish food.
They breed very easily, basically just need water (keep an airstone for movement), some decorations, and them. They eat just about anything, mostly plant material. I feed mine mainly Algae wafers and hornwort.
They are some of the best algae eaters out there.
I did crash my population though by mistaking a lot (like a lot a lot) of snail poop for mud when I got them, overtime it got too toxic and killed them, hence clean often. I had a few populations going in other tanks though so I can reseed the tank.
Here’s one living in a shell:
