Polypterus senegalus "Lake Turkana"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I love that it keeps the silly sen face :D

is it even the same species as senegal? the head looks quite different and more like an upperjaw bichir instead of lower. Also the size difference is amazing.

As far as I know it should still be classified as a senegal. Wild caught senegals have different headshapes in comparison to their captive bred counterparts. Senegals are upper jaw so no surprise that they look like an upper jaw bichir. Yah Lake Turkana senegals tend to grow larger and thicker than your typical Senegal.

Here are some more photos from yesterday.

what a beauties:hearts:
i notice that my long fin senegal bichirs also get bigger then the 'normal' sold senegal.
My 'normal'' senegals got stuck at around 15-18cm while the long fin easily grew to 23-25cm

Ahh is your normal Senegal male or female? What about longfin? I noticed male senegals seem to slow down a lot in growth around 18-20 cm. Female seem to grow a bit more before slowing down.
Bump for more pix!
Here ya go. Random pictures.
