We had a fresh inch of new snow on top of the old when I got up this morning...but have gotten at least a couple more since then and it's supposed to keep coming all day. And...it is the heaviest, wettest, most miserable-to-move variety. But the temps are considerably warmer, up around -10C so almost balmy.
Esox, jokes about shovelling are only funny when they come from people who also have to shovel...you residents of tropical isles just come across as mean with comments like that...

You're taking me back to a bygone age now John. I grew up on a small farm as a child and before climate change was even a thing we had some quite brutal winters over here in tropical blighty. My dad made sure us kids did our fair share of shovelling snow, and if we weren't shovelling snow we'd be shovelling "other" less delightful substances in the cow shed when mucking out.
I became very good at shovelling, though nowadays, thankfully, I no longer shovel snow....or s**t!! Lol.
"Down on the farm?" I don't recall, even remotely, anything in that picture that reminds me of my childhood on our farm!

Well here we had plus 5 yesterday which caused all the snow on the roads to become slush, which was fun to drive in.
my house walkway was an ice slide in the morning and my ice melt was at the bottom of the stairs, another fun time.
After I shovelled the ice, I slid to work in my car.
and then it dropped to -22 today so almost 30 degrees difference in temperatures in 24 hours.
thankfully it snowed a little to cover the slippery ice that re froze and made it a bit easier to drive on the roads

Honestly, Niki, I actually prefer colder weather during the winter, just because of the sort of nonsense with which you are dealing now. We virtually never have temps go above freezing between mid-Nov and mid-Mar and as a result, we don't get that infernal thaw/melt cycling that makes driving...and walking!...so treacherous. Generally speaking, that first snowflake in late-Oct or early-Nov is still smiling and waving at me when I walk by in March.
Here are a couple pics taken just now through various windows at home. The snow is coming down heavy right now, not too visible because they are small, heavy flakes. Supposed to continue for the rest of the day... For scale, the big door on the steel building is 12 feet tall, the fence around the small wildflower garden is 3 feet tall, and the table in the far rear right corner of the one pic is a platform bird feeder 4 feet tall. The deck in the third picture was completely clear of snow 24 hours ago.
I'm only home from work for one week...really didn't need or want this crap...

One more, this one of the small deck off my den. Again, I had this clear of snow yesterday. Those lumps are the back of a couple of Muskoka chairs which we sometimes sit in even during the winter, enjoying a hot drink and watching the bird feeders. Won't be sitting there anytime soon...
I like to cook on the grill year round. This was not this past few days, it was from 2014.
