Thanks for the suggestion. Not the easiest thing in the world as there is only a few cm between the back of the tank and the wall, but I'll experiment with it.

I would recommend adding a black background to the tank. It will bring out more colour in the plants and tetras.
Agreed. When I added a dark blue background to my planted tank everything popped more. I would have done black if I had it on me, though what I noticed with my particular background (a plastic tablecloth lol) was that based on how the sunlight hits it, it will appear light blue, dark blue, or black creating different effects at different times of day.

My tank was right up against a wall. Nice thing about the tablecloth was that it could be draped over and taped to the sides and then could just cut extra off the bottom.

Hornwort grows like mad. I just draped it over some driftwood and let it naturally do it's own thing. Anubias planted below hornwort to decrease light to them. Hornwort does shed quite a bit and tends to clog filter intakes. I just purchased some pre filter sponges to deal with that. Frogbit looks nice but tough to find here. Anyone ever used red root floaters and how did it do? Pics of hornwort...t1.jpg

My hornwort almost completely outcompeted my giant duckweed, and that stuff grows like crazy (though being pounded by the filter output also didn’t help). As of recent it has made a comeback though, not a lot but the two are living in together with no problems. I’d imagine a similar story with red roots.

I just use black window tint.

Some updates to this thread:

The stems of hornwort failed to propagate, IDK why. Not too big a deal though.

Tried the black background on the tank and it wasn't really to my taste. However, I replaced the substrate when I rearranged my fishroom (https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/rearranging-my-fishroom-before-and-after.746223/) and I think it looks a lot nicer than the previous picture on this thread with the old substrate.

I also found a use for the pothos plants that failed in my 473 due to getting destroyed whenever I cleaned the tank - putting them in the 110 liter. The leaves are visible in the first picture and the roots in the second.

Finally, I'll be picking up 9 celestial pearl danios for this tank (which good looking does not even begin to describe). They should enjoy the cover provided by the heavy planting at the top.
