Do they not do well solo, or they just look better in groups?
That's not an easy question to answer.

I definitely like them better in groups.

As predators, you might expect them to be solitary fish.

Although, they do appear to do well in groups. Juveniles are pretty much always found in groups. Even mature dats do appear to be comfortable with each other.

A group together will tend to congregate into close ambush position, but still each be all out for itself.

NGT used to have a bad reputation of being very aggressive towards tankmates but I have never had such issues with any that I have kept.....my problem with them has always been training them to eat pellets......nice looking little NGT by the way,good luck with it

I am afraid my two NGTs did not survive. They lived about a year, and grew. But were always cowering.

Maybe they could not compete with IT and NTT, or maybe the water parameters for NGT are different.

I wouldn't mind having another one if it weren't for their stubbornness to eat pellets,at this point in my life I try to keep away from them and the NTT dats which are also stubborn in my experience.
