Bought a black nasty today can anyone identify the sex...hoping its a male?

Looks like a female, because of the dark colors in the dorsal, but its also very young, so things could change.
Here is a mature pair, male upper (about 15") female below (10-12").

There is one thing, I should probably add, if there is a female, but not a male in the tank, the female will sometimes adapt dominant color and shape.
When I took the male out of the tank for a while, the above female lightened in color, and her head profile steepened.
Above, once the male was removed, she lightened quite dramatically, and her nuchal hump became more prominent.

If it's just the 2 you're going to continue see aggressive behavior towards one another. Both each other as competition for food and territory.
