Hello fishkeepers. I’ve been absent for sometime, doing other things, but I was missing the humor around this place a bit.

I just caught up with the last 10 pages or so in this thread, & I see things haven’t changed much while I have been absent.

I see Billy Jack avatar is back. That’s probably a good thing. I’m feeling a lot more Billy Jack myself these days. So many things that educated people refused to believe are turning out to be more true than people suspected. But so what? Everything comes out in the wash.

Anyhow I joined a gritty welding & machinist club online, where political discussion is the expected norm, and I also joined a very active bicycle restoration & customizing club.

This is one of my latest efforts.

That’s a Trek aluminum BMX frame that came from a junk pile, plus about $600 in parts and two months work.

Felix has a rash and I’ve been treating him with various medication‘s because I thought it was hexamita. Seems to be going away slowly.

It’s probably because of the damn plecos in the system.

Thanks Esox. I got so busy building and riding bicycles that I haven’t made any improvements to the aquariums.

But there are some on my radar. I want to build a hood for the living room tank to improve the appearance. I want to increase the size of my mooneyfish tank from 55 to 100, And I think I’m going to add some more volume to the main system as well bringing it up from 240 gallons (theoretical, maybe 210 actual) up to 300.

And may be a surprise construction if things work out. We’ll see how bad I get raped on taxes this year.

Well,it looks as if Dana White has come out of his recent troubles unscathed and without a scratch,in more ways than one.

...which is more than can be said for this guy who's face was disfigured after competing in White's Power Slap League....seems that TBS did go forward with airing the new combat sport show afterall!

I find this very interesting. For years now boxing has been frowned upon because of the danger of brain damage, not only during the fight, but years later regarding the links to Alzheimers and Parkinsons.

Football too hasn't escaped due to the danger from heading the ball, and again links to latter year brain damage.

But this new "sport" just seems absolutely stupid. How is this even allowed? I've seen clips on you tube and the brute force involved, in my opinion, is potentially far more dangerous than boxing and football.

They don't even protect themselves, and are often knocked clean out. That guy looks like he's been hit with a sledgehammer, and by the looks of it could have suffered nerve damage.

I just don't get it at all.

Thats not fair!!! I already told her she can have them': Entitled mother insists on free products, then she really escalates her demands (msn.com)

Hello; This is funny. Thing is I have known people much like this. Had a neighbor for a short time in a nearby rental house. The guy did not work. His current girlfriend did work and was pregnant by him. He had a 4th grade daughter living with him whose mother is the sister of the current girlfriend. (yes he got two sisters pregnant.)
Somehow, he got an old car. One day he saw me lug in a five gallon can of fuel for my lawnmower. He came over and asked to borrow some gas. I said he could have the five gallons I just bought less a quart i put into the mower for $20. He stammered around a bit and finally told me he did not have the money. I did not relent, and he went away.

He eventually had the car repoed as he never made any payments. He would park it behind the rental house, but they found it anyway.

He was never out of cigarettes or beer but the young 4th grade girl borrowed milk and such from the neighbors. I found out which school she attended. Went to the school and gave money her teacher for school supplies. Knew better than give to the man.

After ruining the septic system of the house and not paying rent that family left

Okay, my wife just sent me this, knowing full well it would set me off on one of my favourite rant topics:

No, I don't rant about starfish. :)

My beef here is with a problem that I feel causes a lot of negative issues and yet seems to be rarely acknowledged or addressed: irresponsible journalism.

Some unknown biologist, desperate to publish something, comes to the "astonishing" conclusion that the community of bottom-dwelling marine life in arctic waters includes some organisms that are carnivorous. Well, duh! How is that surprising...or news...or any kind of "discovery"?

But that's not the issue here. It's when some "journalist" takes that bit of unremarkable data...and manages to dramatize it to:

There's a hungry Arctic predator with a lot of arms that eats polar bears!

Now, take that idiotic headline, and present it to an audience of people who typically get all their "news" from internet snippets like this. These folks don't question anything...and they certainly are far too busy to actually do any thinking themselves; I mean, that's why they have the internet, right?

So you get a bunch of misinformed morons who will fight to the death with you if you so much as suggest that they don't have a clue about the topic in question. Throw them into an environment, such as a lunchroom at work, with one or two people who rise to a stupid comment like a bass to a floating frog...not that I know anybody like that personally :uhoh:...and potentially bad things ensue.

I won't even go into the horror of trying to explain to a member of one's own family who is, shall we say...gullible?...that there really is no cause for concern, and that they can go back to worrying about the Killer Death Stars that are poised to fry the Earth's surface with a lethal pulse of gamma radiation.
