100 Gallon Oscar Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe some Marbled convicts males get real impressive and not your regular pink or black coloration. Another great option would be Sajica cichlids. They get beefy and stunning !

Funny you should mention that. I just spent the last hour looking into different Amatitlania. And I’m pretty set on Sajica at the moment. Once the tank is cycled and scaped/planted. I think I’ll start with a group of 6-8 juveniles and grow them out before narrowing the selection down. I think I’ll keep an ongoing journal in a separate thread once I get everything ready.

So unfortunately when I moved my 100 gallon tank to the new place, I found that the acrylic had cracked where the heater had been sitting. Looks like I should be able to repair it, but not something I will be doing right now, and likely will never trust the tank anywhere other than the basement, and it will be a while before I have a space set up in the basement for it.
I’m debating on picking up a 75 gallon on Black Friday if there are any good deals. I’m waiting to see if petsmart does 50% off the marineland 75 gallon tank and stand combo. I would think 75 gallons would still be a reasonable amount of space for a pair of Sajica, also with the potential to move to the 100 gallon depending on how that plays out.

I think you will have no problem with Sajica in a 75 gallon, in my experience they are pretty mild for CA cichlids. You could potentially keep some other fish as well. My largest fish in my 48x18 is a male Sajica, but the smaller pair of chetumalensis runs the show.

Thanks for the info, unfortunately I didn’t pick up a 75 on Black Friday because none of the sales were that great. But I’m now in the process of building a custom stand/ cabinet that will go in the space of the original 100 gallon tank idea. Now that I have a bit of time to shop around for tanks and don’t need a tank stand combo. I’m considering a nicer quality rimless, much like the one you have. Which manufacturer did you go through if you don’t mind me asking? I was looking at water box or possibly the tenecor 75 gallon if I decide to go acrylic.
